Credit card microchip

Hello,

Our credit cards do not have microchip that Europeans cards have, therefore it how can we rent the Velib bikes?

Hi Nan,

Good question!

Luckily it IS possible for foreigners to use their credit cards to rent the VELIB bicycles - as long as they have microchipped cards.

These days many credit cards worldwide have microchips in them, so it's possible that you will be able to get one before you travel.

Why not ask your bank or credit card institution, to see if they provide microchipped credit cards? If 'Yes!', apply for a replacement one before you travel.

Also check out the image of the credit card above - you can see the microchip clearly visible on the front, so this is what you need to look out for.

The benefit of having a micro-chip AND a PIN is added security, as they are very difficult to use fraudulently.
