Drving Airstream Caravan through the French Alps
I first met Snoman a few months ago via his blog which I stumbled across online - somewhere - somehow. You know how those bright shiny things on webpages grab your attention :-) We click hither and yon, constantly being distracted (in a fun, delicious kind of way), nevr knowing where we'll end up.
Well this turned out to be the biggest, brightest shiniest thing EVER on my computer screen - an absolutely beautiful vintage Airstream caravan. I read each and every one of the blog entries about Snoman's idea, how he finally tracked down, found and purchased the Airstream, up to the point where it was going to be shipped overseas. I loved this true story! I wanted more!! So I posted a comment ... Snoman (Richard) replied, and well - I'll let Richard tell the story from here on in :-)

Snoman’s Grand Alpine Tour:
My little family (Iddi, Jimmy and I) have been on the road for 3 months now in our vintage 1966 Airstream caravan, visiting incredible mountain towns and sno lovers in over 30 French ski resorts throughout the French alps… having an adventure as we tell everyone (via the iinternet & cellphone) about our ski holidays' website www.SNO.mobi
Above: Iddi, Snoman, Jimmy
But we’ve also been jollied along the way by our “Frenchified” friends, as we Tweeted the high altitudes and low temperatures of our Grand Alpine Tour.
So I wanted to:
- pop across a few photos
- tell your readers our blog is at www.sno.travel/blog ...
… and explain that, while a-night-in-paris.com is undoubtedly the guide par excellence in France’s capital, when venturing up into the sno-cloaked mountains, you might want to try the world’s first ski resort guide for your cell phone – www.SNO.mobi puts the whole ski resort in your pocket!
(Teena says: To see more fabulous photos, visit Snoman's fabulously entertaining blog)
… we have survived a blow out…
… a lost door…
… a car crash…
… attempted robbery…
… and more hospitality and French & British ex-pat generosity than is medically advised…
… in the words of that bastion of Brit Haute Culture, Vinnie Jones, “it’s been emotional”.
The blog starts with my adventure to buy the Airstream (holding a fist full of dollars) from a US Marine in the Arizona desert… then drive it 1500m across country to the Port in Texas, to ship home to England. From there the story gathers pace … blog is currently about 2 months behind our actual trip, so there’s lots more to come too!
What I really wanted to say is thanks for the enormous support that we continue to be given by Frenchified English speakers abroad – our story is entertaining but it has also been a real lesson in the importance of people in our lives – our spectacularly clever mobile website would be nowhere without the help of the truly great people we’ve met along the way… Andy & Heather in their beautiful Meribel chalet, to Megeve Mike (in Megeve of course) and especially our SNO cultural attaché & sartorial savant Teena, tweeting along with us from gay Paris.
So there it is, thanks a million!
