Le Quatorze Juillet!
The 14th July commemorates the storming of the Bastille, and French folk never call this Bastille Day - it's only us foreigners who do that :-) A national holiday - the Fête Nationale - is the day that the French celebrate asserting their independence by the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789. It's a wonderful day of national pride, pageantry, and also announces that summer vacation season has arrived. If you're in Paris at this time, you may notice the relaxed feeling affecting everyone out and about, having picnics, and enjoying summer. There are fireworks on the Seine and lots of people celebrate by getting together with friends for dinner - foreigners/expats will be having lots of barbecues :-)
Happy Bastille Day to you wherever you are!
Bonne fête à tous!New look for this website!
I'm trying out a new Newsletter format with my new website design, so please let me know if you have any issues with reading this online, links etc - thanks.
I'm moving my website pages over to the new content management system one-by-one, so bear with me as it takes a bit of time to move 270+ pages :-)
New look for Postcards from Paris!
With the new look website, I'm also testing a few looks for this Newsletter page, which I'm very excited about.
Interview about comedy in Paris
Did you read the last newsletter where I mentioned comedy acts in English in Paris? Well I got to wondering about how that got started, so I emailed the person responsible for bring great comedy acts and comedians to Paris, and he agreed to an email interview (while I'm in Sydney). You can read my interview here >>
A restaurant to try out
Friends told me about a cute little restaurant they tried recently called le Café Qui Parle in Montmartre - if you're looking for a change (and it's perfect for vegetarians) check out my info on the the Café Qui Parle (the "cafe who speaks") restaurant >>

When someone writes to me about Paris, I can add that question or comment, and my reply, to my website - here are a couple of interesting emails just received:

Take time to enjoy your holiday
Are you off to Paris soon or already there? I do hope you have a faaabulous time, and please remember to enjoy yourself and don't run yourself ragged trying to see every single tourist attraction, or you'll need a vacation when you get home :-)
You can always return to Paris another time, and if you're anything like me, you enjoy hanging out in sidewalk cafés or parks and simply watching the world go by. Enjoy your holiday by feeling like a local - that's my best tip.
