Ahhh, I'm thinking about the most romantic French love phrases in movies that I've heard over the years and I'm smiling at the memories ... and yes, poetry is also filled with delicious love phrases.

I'm a real sucker for a good love story, and there are lots of gorgeous French films to choose from. Of course, hearing the movies in French gives it a whole new romantic edge, doesn't it? Here are just a few I like:

Cyrano de Bergerac

A beautiful, touching, and humorous love story. Cyrano loves Roxanne, but fears rejection due to his overly-large nose. Roxanne loves Christian, and he in turn loves her, but does not have the ability to express his love.

Le Retour de Martin Guerre - The Return of Martin Guerre

Gerard Depardieu plays a soldier who returns to his wife after many years, and has changed so much (in more than just personality) that his wife and neighbors are not sure it's the same person.

Les Enfants du Paradis - Children of Paradise

A classic French romantic movie, by Marcel Carne. A mime falls in love with a theater troupe actress, but faces a lot of competition for her affections.

La Belle et la bête - Beauty and the Beast

This is an all-time favourite for many people worldwide. This is the original - in black and white. This beautiful, sensual film by Jean Cocteau is about love, inner beauty, and obsession, and is an extraordinary and magical fairy tale.

This is just a small selection, if you'd like to tell me about your favourites, I'd love to hear from you!  Fill in the details below - thanks!
