Savon de Marseille : Soap of Marseille

Family and I will be living in a Paris apartment for a week. The apartment has a washer and dryer to use. Are there any detergent brands and fabric softener in France for sensitive skin that I will be able to purchase at the local supermarche? Do you know the brand names? Thank you.

French washing powder and fabric softener for sensitive skin?

Hi there! Great question - I've been able to find some solutions for you. Some of these detergents are for babies' clothes but will also be fine for you.

In the supermarche you can look for baby products and search for Beuhler Bebe which is available at the stores Auchan and Carrefour.

Other people have used these products with success:

  • Ariel liquid
  • Persavon flakes, also known as Savon de Marseille Soap of Marseille; available at LeClerc
  • Soupline Hypoallergenic
  • try "noix de lavage" Nuts for Washing from the Nature Shop Cap 3000. It is evidently 100% chemical free, harmless to the enviroment, helps sustainable agriculture in India and goes in the compost bin. Whitener powder to keep clothes white is also available in the same shop
  • Vanish spray is good for stains.

Note - le Chat liquid seems to be too fragrant for many people with sensitive skin.

I do hope this has been helpful - please let me know if I can help with anything else.

PS - since you wrote, I've added a few new pages about What To Eat In Paris - baguettes, types of bread, Croque Monsieurs - pop over and have a look when you've got a minute - yum yum!

Enjoy your stay in Paris - do please come back and tell me about it, and even post a photo if you'd like!

Au revoir,
Teena
