Cheap Phone Cards

Finding cheap phone cards in Paris is a great way to be able to phone just about every country at a reasonable rate.

I bought my first phone card at the Post Office - Bureau de Poste - and they are available in different amounts of minutes/money. You can see in the photo that I purchased one for 15 Euros.

Public Phone Boxes in Paris

Using a public phone box has its own challenges, and the majority of these phone boxes in Paris do not accept coins - only phone cards or credit cards.

Don't panic - be prepared :-)

Once you have purchased the phone card, you will also receive info on how to use it (in French) and generally phone numbers to call to get started.

How phone cards work:

• you will generally need to call a local number to get started
• then you may be requested to press the PIN (Personal Identification Number)
• finally you will be asked to dial the number you wish to call
• if it's an international phone number, you will need to know the international dialling code for that country - for example France is 33, England is 44, Australia is 61, USA is 1
• when you finish the call and hang up, the amount of minutes/money will be deducted from the balance of your card
• the next time you go to make a call, you hear your balance.
